CNN’s chief international anchor, Christiane Amanpour has revealed that she has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Amanpour, who broke the news on Monday, told viewers that the illness was the reason she recently took a break from work.

She added that she’s confident about the outcome, as she begins her chemotherapy journey to deal with the cancer even though doctors weren’t able to surgically remove it.

“I had major surgery to remove it, and I am now going through several months of chemotherapy for the very best possible long term prognosis, and I am confident even though doctors weren’t able to remove it.

“I am saying this in the interest of transparency, but really as a shout out to most early diagnosis.

“I urge women to educate themselves on this disease; to get all the regular screenings and scans that they can. Women should always listen to their bodies and ensure that medical check ups aren’t ignored,” she said.

The 63-year-old Amanpour has been a longtime news anchor at CNN, where she worked from 1983 to 2010.

She, however, left for a brief stint at ABC News but returned to CNN in 2012.
