The Federal Capital Territory High Court which sat on appeal in Bwari, Abuja, has discharged and acquitted the member representing Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives, Victor Danzaria.

Danzaria was earlier convicted by an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly giving false evidence.

This was contained in a 20-page judgement obtained by our correspondent, in Gombe, on Wednesday.

The document stated that the court was presided over by Justice O. A. Musa alongside Justice A. O. Ebong, who after considering the plaintiff’s appeal, upheld and declared the entire proceedings of the Magistrate’s Court as a nullity, baseless and void in its entirety.

The Appellate Court held that by virtue of the provisions of Section 31 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended), only the High Court of a State or the FCT can determine the nature of the complaint against him.

Reacting to the judgment, Media Aide to the lawmaker, Tal Ibrahim, quoted Danzaria as expressing gratitude to his supporters and his constituents for their support and solidarity.
