Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has declared the last Saturday of June of every year as Youths Day in Imo State.

The Governor made the declarations when he dolled out a huge sum of N250,000 empowerment fund to 15,000 youths in Imo state.

Uzodimma reiterated the commitment of his administration in ensuring a better future for youths in the state.

According to the governor, the youths were trained on various essential skills, such as fish farming, hairdressing, tailoring, barbing, among others.

He said: “We are taking a practical step in the actualisation of our prosperity agenda. Our Shared Prosperity Programme is not just a mantra but a manifestation of our resolve to empower Imo people, particularly the youths, not only economically but also politically.”

Governor Uzodimma said, that his administration meant every word when it talked about empowering the youths as future leaders of tomorrow.

He said: “The only guarantee that the youths of today can truly be the leaders of tomorrow is by ensuring that such youths are empowered today so that tomorrow they can be economically strong to assert themselves as leaders because we understand clearly that our future as a nation and as a state, lies in the quality of youths we have today, we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that we secure the future for our youths by providing for their today.”

He stressed that the empowerment would help to keep youths away from social vices, as he declared last Saturday of June every year as Youths Day in Imo State.

Uzodimma stated his administration’s determination to engage the youths in a more proactive way, and make them more relevant, by instituting a forum for yearly regular interaction which would go a long way to encourage them to take up the role of playing advocacy for peace for a crime-free Imo State.
