Police in Umuma, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, say they have successfully repelled armed bandits on a convoy of three vehicles.

A police statement has it that a Divisional Police Officer CSP Fatmann Dooiyor was killed in the process.

According to the Area Commander, ACP Benjamin Abang of Omuma Area Command his men ambushed the bandits, killing six of them with 11 of them arrested.

Two Toyota Highlander SUV vehicles with registration numbers Abia MBL 517 AT and Lagos JJJ 984 E, as well as an unregistered Lexus SUV which were abandoned by the bandits, were recovered.

Police official statements have it that their tactical team has commenced a raid in nearby bushes for possible arrest of bandits who fled into the bush during the gun duel.

Imo Police Commissioner, CP Abutu Yaro warned bandits in neighboring states to keep off Imo or face the consequences.
