A Peoples Democratic Party stalwart and Senator for Owerri West senatorial zone between 2011 and 2015, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu (Samddady) has condemned in its entirety the forceful closure of some markets in the state by soldiers who denied traders access to their shops yesterday without prior notice.

Senator Anyanwu in a release issued by his Special Adviser (Media), Ikenna Onuoha expressed dismay at the attitude of the soldiers which he said is a subtle way of unleashing another round of hunger, deprivation and lack on the traumatized people shortly after what they suffered during the ENDSARS and COVID-19 era that were accompanied by lockdown, curfew and other attendant challenges that adversely affected their income, welfare and means of livelihood.

The erstwhile Executive Chairman of Ikeduru LGA and two time member for Ikeduru state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly urged “the state government to apply diplomacy and call those directly or indirectly involved in the unwarranted closure of the markets to order without delay, as trading is the major means of livelihood of the average Igbo man”.
