As the September 3 local government Congress of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo State draws near, party leaders in various local governments in Governor Hope Uzodimma’s camp, are perfecting plans to “pocket” the party structure in their various LGAs.
With the crisis which trailed the ward congress yet to abate, the local government Congress is expected to throw up fresh and renewed altercations in the party within the camp of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The outcome of the ward congress is still shrouded in secrecy, as a result of the wranglings among party leaders which trailed it. It is unclear if the Appeal Congress Commitee set up to resolve disputes which flowed from the ward congress carried out it’s assignment to the latter.
There were widespread reports of skirmishes in some LGAs, such as Ikeduru LGA, where a former Commissioner of Information, Prof Orikeze Vitalis Ajumbe accused another party chieftain in the area, Chief Charles Amadi popularly called Chavon, of hijacking the ward congress.
Ahead of the party LGA Congress, party leaders, including those eying one elective office or the other, or those who want to plant their surrogates into elected offices in 2023, have begun plans to hijack the exercise, which they consider will serve as a basis to realize their political ambitions.
Reports had gone viral online last Friday, that in Ezinihitte Mbaise, a former federal lawmaker who is said to be eying a return to the House of Representatives in 2023, engaged in fisticuffs with some party leaders over his insistence to have his ally, vie for the Chairmanship position of the party.
INNONEWS was informed that Governor Hope Uzodimma had expressed disappointment over the conduct of some of his party men during the ward congress, even when he had told them at a stakeholders meeting prior to the ward congress to stick to the rules of the game.
