Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has advised the people to be wary of those plotting blackmail and violence as political tools to win the 2023 elections in the State.
He added that such politicians do not wish the people well.
The governor who stated this weekend during the grand finale of the inauguration of the local government steering committees for, ‘Maintain Peace Movement,’ MPM, held in Onna, Akwa Ibom State, noted that power is only attained through divine providence and not through violence or blackmail.
Speaking on the essence of the Maintain Peace Movement’, the governor said peace is paramount for development, saying that no investor would come into a place marred with violence and crises , hence the need to sustain the existing peace.
“There can’t be development without peace. We want to sustain the peace. Anybody who is seeking power through violence and blackmail does not wish Akwa Ibom well.
“There is only one Governorship seat. You have to take difficult decision. It’s about peace in our State for us to attract foreign direct investment, for us to attract investors, for us to create medical tourism for Akwa Ibom people and lots more,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of MPN, who is also the national legal adviser of the peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem while inaugurating the steering committee urged the people to remain resolute and seek peace at all times.
He noted that despite the insecurity bedeviling Nigeria due to misrule by Buhari APC-led administration, Akwa Ibom State is still making waves in economic growth and development due to the unprecedented peace in the State.
