William Troost-Ekong hopes the Super Eagles will secure a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, reports Completesports.com.

Gernot Rohr’s charges will begin their quest for a place in the competition when they host the Lone Star of Liberia at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Friday (today).

Troost-Ekong celebrated his 28th birthday with his teammates at their Eko Hotel and Suites camp on Wednesday.

Asked to state his wish, the Watford defender declared that he is looking forward to the team making it to Qatar and doing something special at the mundial.

“My birthday wish is that we qualify for the World Cup and we can do something special as a team,” Troost-Ekong said.

“I’m really proud to be part of this team. I love you guys and it is like celebrating my birthday with my second family.”
