The leadership of the Northern Youths’ Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on its unrelenting efforts in ensuring that corruption is totally eliminated in the country.

The statement noted that the blockage of all revenue leakages in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) is a step taken in the right direction by the present administration to curtail corruption in the country.

The forum’s President, Isah Abubakar, in a statement, explained, “With the presentation of 2022 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly, Federal Government need to beam its searchlight on major revenue generation MDAs, with special focus on Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) considering the recent indictment of its Acting Managing Director by the team behind the Pandora Papers.”

The forum stressed the need for Mr. Mohammed Bello-Koko, acting Managing Director of the NPA, to be thoroughly investigated over his role in the allegations of mismanagement of funds and short remittance of generated revenue of the agency which led to the suspension of former MD, Ms. Hadiza Bala Usman.

It noted that the then Managing Director of NPA couldn’t have been able to dip her hands in the national treasury without the active connivance of the Executive Director in charge of Finance, saying that anything short of that would make Nigerians believe that the probe on NPA is aimed at witch-hunting Usman while shielding Bello-Koko will only make fool of the anti-corruption crusade of the Federal Government.

It stated that the inability of Bello-Koko to eat the humble pie and resign or be sacked by the Federal government will force the NYCN to commence mass mobilisation of its members and other concerned civil society groups to ensure that it happens.

The statement said that Nigerians cannot continue to live in poverty while corrupt public servants are buying properties they don’t need in other countries.
