The managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Fidet Okhiria, has claimed vandals, not bandits, are responsible for the attack on a train service along the Abuja-Kaduna track.

Okhiria stated this while speaking with Daily Trust on Thursday.

He confirmed that parts of the train track were destroyed in the attack.

According to him, an investigation has begun to determine what really happened on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

An explosion led to the shutdown of the engine of the train. A backup train had to convey the passengers at about 12:15am to Rigasa train station in Kaduna.

The NRC suspended service on the rail line as a precaution, but Okhiria says they are working to ensure it is restored by Thursday evening (today).

“So we have issues with the track and we are fixing it. We are working to resume train services and by today’s (Thursday) evening, we should run if possible,” he said.
