A youth group in Cross River State has lamented the huge debt burden of over One Trillion Naira successive governments in the state has accumulated.
The concerns were raised during a global media conference on Tuesday, where large numbers of youths and other stakeholders actively participated with voluntary views on governance.
A keynote speaker, Andrew Thomas at the conference harped on the mounting debts profile which has weighed the state down considerably.
He cautioned that Governor Ben Ayade’s successor must be made to commit not to take any more foreign or local loans.
“Anyone who wants to lead Cross River State must be made to answer some pertinent questions. Importantly, he must be impressed upon not to go for too many loans. Already the state is heavily weighed down with over N1 Trillion.
“In 2023, we want a Governor that understands what governance entails, not promises and flamboyance and should design projects that would not take more than 36 months to complete else it would become conduit pipes to drain state lean resources.”
He called on young people in the state to come out and actively participate in all electoral processes and elect one like them.
He encouraged them not to collect whatever inducements from politicians who may come to lure them to cover four years.
“Any politicians coming to bribe them should bill them at N30,000 national minimum wage for four years. Thereafter, they should proceed and vote their minds”, he stated.
