Worried by incessant kidnappings of innocent citizens, the people of Otun-Ekiti in Moba Local Council of Ekiti State have called on government to be more decisive in the fight against criminal elements.
The community said killings and kidnappings along Otun- Ayetoro- Ewu Road in recent times was affecting business activities and general wellbeing of the people.
They spoke, yesterday, in Otun Ekiti, during a press conference on activities to mark the first year coronation of the Oore of Moba, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo on the throne of his forebears.
The Oore stool became vacant on October 21, 2019, after the death of Oba Adedapo Popoola, who reigned for 20 years.
The Committee Chairman and former Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Bayo Aina, said: “The cries of the people have gone to the governments. That was why Southwest governors formed Amotekun.
“Above all, governments must be decisive in fighting these criminals taking people hostage. No governor in the Southwest should sleep. All hands must be on the deck to deal decisively with these kidnappers.
“However, we are assuring the people that will come for coronation anniversary of adequate security…” Aina said Oba Adeagbo would bestow the title of the Fiwajoye of Mobaland on Ekiti State Governor’s wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi.
“He will also honour Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha. This shows how cosmopolitan our Oba is. He believes in one Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, Okorocha has expressed the interest of Rochas Okorocha’s Foundation to establish a school in the town.
Okorocha, represented by Prince Ebunola Martins, commended the monarch for being patriotic, saying: “The foundation would establish a school here. Some of the scholarship given by him cut across Nigeria. It has no political and ethnic colorations…”
