The Independent Investigative Panel on Allegations of Human Rights Violations by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Monday in Abuja ordered that the remains of Simon Nyamkwange be retrieved from the mortuary and buried.

The body has been in the mortuary since April 22, 2020 when he was shot.

Justice Suleiman Galadima-led panel gave the directive after listening to the arguments by lawyers to the petitioner, Uju Terseer and Fidelis Ugwuobe; and lawyer to one of the accused persons, Mamman Barakwai.

Terseer told the panel that he had written many letters to the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, asking for the release of the corpse for burial but to no avail.

Two of the letters demanding the release of the corpse dated April 30 and June 4, 2020 respectively were sighted by our correspondent on Monday.

Ugwuobe also told the panel that the prime suspect in the killing was not available as he had been deployed for the coverage of the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 6.
