The Rivers State command of the Federal Fire Service has threatened to blacklist some parts of the state over alleged harassment of its workers.

The Deputy Fire Superintendent and Head of Operations of the service, Abbas Reagan, made the threat after his team was attacked by residents of Nembe Bille waterside when they arrived to put out a raging fire.

He said he was part of the team that was attacked by the residents for arriving late at the scene of the fire on Monday.

Speaking in an interview in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Reagan blamed their slow response to fire emergencies on the ongoing constructions across the state which has made movement difficult.

He said “Our job is to secure lives and property. What do you benefit by stoning the firemen?, breaking their vehicles, these are multi million naira vehicles and also the lives of the firemen that dedicate themselves to see that they save lives and property and then you are at the scene of the fire, beating them, it’s not right.

“If they keep up doing this, such kind of environments would be black listed and we will not do anything whenever they have such emergencies because we are not the one that caused the fire”.

“It’s their own act of carelessness or willful act that caused the fire and then at the end of the day we will be at the receiving end it’s not nice.”
