Magaji Erubu of Ilorin Emirate, Dr Zubair Folorunsho Erubu, who was abducted last Thursday, has regained his freedom, DAILY POST reports.

Dr Erubu, a retired permanent secretary and former physician to two-term former governor Bukola Saraki, was released by his captors in the early hours of Thursday, a family member, Alhaji Mohammed Erubu disclosed.

Dr Erubu was abducted by unknown gunmen eight days ago, with a N60 million ransom placed on his head.

DAILY POST, however, could not confirm if any ransom was paid before the victim’s release.

Dr Erubu is now in an undisclosed hospital for medical attention following the traumatic experience he went through in the hands of his captors.

Recall that Dr Erubu was ambushed at the front of his residence at Ago-Oja, in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, last Thursday after a trip to Ilorin earlier in the day to attend to a patient in his hospital at Balogun Fulani area of Ilorin metropolis.

Spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi, on Thursday confirmed Erubu’s release.

“He has been released this morning, after days of thorough search and rescue operation directed by the commissioner of police, CP Tuesday Assayomo.

“The release was made possible with the cooperation of the victim’s family members, the Community and other security stakeholders, vigilante and hunters.

“Detailed report would be made public as soon as it is available, please,” Ajayi said in a brief statement.
