The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has insisted he is not aware of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State being placed on the watchlist of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Malami stated this while speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday night.

The Minister of Justice also denied that he was part of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council of the Anambra governorship election.

“I’m in all sincerity not aware and I don’t have to be aware because the EFCC is established by law.

“Their responsibilities are demarcated by law and what they do are demarcated by law, not the Attorney-General or the office of the Attorney-General,” Malami said.

The Anambra State Government has said Obiano is ready to answer questions about his tenure in office, and that the Governor, who is currently in the US, did not leave the country in disguise.

This was in reaction to the news that the EFCC placed a watch on Obiano, who will conclude his tenure on March 17, and suspected that he may leave the country after then.
