Following an alert by the Department of State Services (DSS) that terrorists were planning to attack military bases within border communities, the Ogun State Police Command says security agencies in the State are putting efforts in top gear to avert any of such attacks.
DAILY POST reported recently that the DSS had in a letter signed by the State Director of Security in Ogun State, M.B. Abdullahi, warned that it has intelligence that insurgents were plotting to attack military bases and other security posts in border towns, advising security agencies to put counter-measures in place to frustrate the plot.
Ogun is one of the states with the highest number of both approved and unapproved borders, making it prone to all forms of illegal migration and smuggling.
Putting this into consideration, the police said they were working with other security agencies to ensure the security of lives and property in Ogun border communities.
In an interview with DAILY POST, the Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, revealed that the police were aware of the information, saying both the DSS and the NPF share intelligence.
According to Oyeyemi, the onus lied on all security agencies in Ogun State to foil the ambition of the terrorists.
He revealed that security men in the State were working together to ensure no attack was carried out in Ogun border communities.
“All security agencies are working together. We are sharing information together. If such information is being shared by the DSS, the onus lies on everyone of us to work together to thwart that ambition of the terrorists.
“So, we are working together to see how such thing will not happen,” the Ogun police spokesman told our correspondent.
Speaking, a traditional ruler from Yewa, where the nation shares boundaries with Benin Republic, berated the Federal Government for failing to develop the borders in Ogun like it did in Lagos.
The Eselu of Iselu, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, said the refusal of government to make life meaningful for those living within the frontiers of the nation should be addressed.
The first-class Oba advised that concerted efforts should be made towards addressing the porous borders in Ogun, asking President Muhammadu Buhari to address some of his policies affecting those living in border towns.
He urged the Ogun State Government to assist security agencies in intelligence gathering by working with traditional rulers and the Community Development Associations.
While urging residents to speak out whenever they get wind of any illegal gathering or see strange faces, the monarch called for calm, expressing confidence that the security agencies would prevent any attack from any terrorist organization.
He charged traditional rulers to come together and ruminate on how to help law enforcement agents at a time like this.
