The Emir of Fika and Chairman, Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers, Dr. Muhammad Ibn Abali Muhammad Idrissa, has warned motorists, especially commercial drivers, to desist from reckless driving as well as other dangerous behaviours before, during and after this year’s Yuletide season.
The Emir gave the warning in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Potiskum town, Yobe State.
He admonished passengers and commuters to raise alarms for safety by reporting drivers to law enforcement agents whenever they find them driving recklessly on highways.
“When a driver is misbehaving ensure that you are able to caution him because your destiny is in your hands and when you close your mouth, you are closing your destiny,” he said.
The monarch, however, advised motorists to obey rules and regulations to ensure safety to avoid road traffic crashes on the highways before, during and after the festive season.
He equally advised passengers to ensure they board vehicles without mechanical deficiency before embarking on a journey, this he said is to prevent avoidable road crashes arising from mechanical faults.
