Three European clubs, Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa, have commended Egypt for qualifying for the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

Egypt defeated Ivory Coast 5-4 on penalties in the AFCON round of 16 on Wednesday to qualify for the quarter-final stage.

The encounter ended in a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes.

But Mohamed Salah’s winning penalty ensured Egypt eliminated Ivory Coast from the tournament.

Egypt will now face Morocco in the AFCON last-8 this weekend.

Reacting to Egypt’s qualification, Arsenal, in a tweet via its Twitter handle, wrote: “Egypt Through to the quarter-finals Trophy Man of the Match Congratulations, @ElNennY #AFCON2021.”

Similarly, Aston Villa wrote: “Egypt face Ivory Coast at 4 pm (GMT), with a place in the #AFCON2021 quarter-finals on the line. Flag of Egypt Good luck, @Trezeguet.”

Also, Liverpool tweeted: “@MoSalah nets the winning penalty to send #TeamEgypt through to the #AFCON2021 quarter-finals.”
