Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has claimed that Nigeria would have collapsed if not for President Muhammadu Buhari’s military background.

The governor said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, stressing that things would have been worse in the country if not for the president’s military background.

According to him, there was an international conspiracy against the country, particularly the northern region.

“People don’t know that because if you have been able to avoid risk, nobody can see it because it was avoided. I think the situation could have been worse.”

Ayade urged Nigerians to look beyond party lines and put the nation first in whatever they do.

“Party lines is what has kept this country backwards. We should think like a country; we should think like a nation,” the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member noted.
