People Democratic Party, PDP, Senatorial Chieftain, Sunday Marshall Katung has sympathised with the people of Kurmin Masara and the Atyap Nation in Zangon-Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State over the attack by a militia group.

Katung said in a statement on Monday that he was saddened by reports of the killing of 11 persons and burning of over 30 houses and properties in Kurmin Masara general area of Zangon Kataf Local Government in Kaduna State.

“Even as I sympathise with the affected families and the affected communities, yet again, as they bury their dead, I expect that security will be ramped up to stem this waste of precious human lives.” He said

”My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, the wounded and all those who the attack has displaced.

He urged the Kaduna State Governor, the Federal government and security agencies to bring the dastardly acts to an end.

Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samaila Aruwan had confirmed the attack.

He said security forces reported the early morning attack on the community to the state government.

According to the reports, troops of the Nigerian Air Force Special Forces who responded to distress calls from the area also fell into an ambush as they mobilized to the scene of the attack.

The troops cleared the ambush and reached the general area, along with troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

As of 4:30pm, eleven residents were confirmed killed, and some were inflicted with gunshot injuries.

According to Aruwan, the victims confirmed killed are listed as follows, Elizabeth Ayuba, Veronica Auta, Bege Daniel, Kephas Waje, Promise Jacob, Damaris Istifanus, Hauwa Joshua, Dogara Gambo, Lidia Ishaya, Michael Achi, Gabriel Michael

He said, over thirty houses and properties were burnt in the attack, adding that the injured were evacuated for treatment while search-and-rescue operations and pursuit of the attackers are in progress on different fronts.

He said the Kaduna State government will make public further details as soon as they are received from security forces.
