Uche Nwosu will have his hands tied to take actions after being arrested by men alleged to be security agents attached to Governor Hope Uzodinma.
The arrest went viral on social media after it was reported that Chief Nwosu had been abducted by gunmen.
The Police State command made a quick statement that they were aware of the arrest, faulting the abduction speculations even when till date they are yet to make another statement concerning the arrest.
Previously Senator Rochas Okorocha said Uche Nwosu would know the best way to follow the matter and since then the eyes of the general public have been on both the side of the Okorocha Dynasty and Imo State Government.
1. IS UCHE NWOSU GUILTY?
Despite claims that a viral confession video has indicted Uche Nwosu and others as sponsors of insecurity in Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodinma failed to mention a single name against his promise earlier to name those funding the chaos in the state.
After the viral confession video which many have questioned its legitimacy, a lot of Imolites believed that Uche Nwosu was going to make the list the governor was supposed to read out on January 4, at the 6th Imo Stake Holders meeting.
Although only a court of law can decide who is guilty or not, the timing of the confession video changed so many things even though there are still a lots of questions to be asked and answered.
2. WHERE IS IMO STATE POLICE COMMAND ON THE SCENE?
Politics aside, this is being about the second time Imo State police command is saying they are aware of a high-profile arrest in the state.
For the avoidance doubt, ‘being aware’ is different from being responsible for something and it is so unfortunate that questions are not being asked in the right direction.
Imo State Police command should be responsible for every arrest in the state and when it is coming from Abuja or other state, they are supposed to sign it off, but this seemed like something from a different playbook as no one from the police command has said a single thing.
The notion being created here is simply that in Imo State, there is the State Police Command and another Police Command that is not under the Police Commissioner.
This is wrong,
3. WHO GAVE THE ORDER?
Lots of orders were given in the process and no matter how we bend to look at it, every citizen in the state should be worried that there is a group of law enforcement agents who can pick you whenever, wherever and take you to the destination of their choice without the knowledge of a single person in your family; even the people with you.
The manner of the arrest witnessed on that Sunday morning is one thing; the private jet as well as filming and releasing of the photos of the victim on social media.
These are basically unanswered questions till this moment and the way things are going, there will never be answers to these questions because the person expected to answer is either on an unconditional mute mode or simply observing table manners for reasons that are very obvious to many Nigerians.
4. GOVERNMENT RESCUES THE POLICE
The golden nature of silence is no longer necessary here as it is obvious that this one is deliberate. Imo state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba has been the vocal point of the entire situation to the extent of saying that Uche Nwosu was invited severally by the police.
Why is the state police command dumb in this situation and why do we have the government coming to the r rescue in issues as severe as gunshots?
Uche Nwosu and his people said gunshots were fired inside the church, he also added that he was arrested inside the church with his mother-in-law and former Imo First Lady pushed away by the masked officers. He also added that his wife’s dress was torn in the process and while these allegations were supposed to be against the Police Command, we had the state government coming to the rescue.
Hon. Emelumba and the Chief Press Secretary defending and addressing a gunshot incident in a state that has a Commissioner of Police and an active Police Public Relations Officer. It is wrong and more like something that has never happened before.
I think we have our answers here. Even the bible said, let the guilty answer for their sins. While the innocent might be aware of the sins of the guilty, they can never be responsible for it – at least we can make it look that way for the sake of convenience.
5. THE OKOROCHAS DID WORSE
You’ll be wondering if Karma is a Nigerian – who ever he or she was. Some Imolites believe that whatever the Okorochas get from anyone is actually what they deserve.
the major questions people are asking is – did the Okorocha ever think that someday they will be out of power? A section of Imolites always celebrate over any form of affliction on the Okorochas and no matter how you see it, some of these sentiments are not always political. They are born from the deepest part of the hearts of all believers of Karma.
Senator Rochas Okorocha who had Uche Nwosu as his Commissioner, Deputy Chief of Staff and later Chief of Staff was associated with lots of cases of unlawfulness so there are still people who believe that every man must reap whatever they sowed.
Two wrongs cannot make a right is a good way to sort things but every man in power should always remember that power is never permanent especially in Imo State.
6. POLITICAL VIEWS
The views of politicians and their ways of doings things is always precarious according to Gov. Hope Uzodinma, something Imolites and Nigerians are yet to learn.
Today, Hon Emeka Ihedioha who prepared the White Paper used in the prosecution of the Okorochas is now their best friend. Even when they have not been making aligning statements, the new romance is obvious and shocking a lot of Imolites.
Whenever two politicians are fighting dirty, both of them are lying. In most cases the fight is not always against them, but for who gets more public sentiments, something only them have the bank that can exchange it for votes during elections.
Sentiments have won elections in Imo State a lot of time, with Senator Rochas Okorocha being the biggest beneficiary.
Elections year is fast approaching and the game is on again. All politicians will have to do is stir the still waters to force ripples of hatred towards their opponents. Anything that has to be done will be done very well, so we will never be surprise if we hear something strange has happened among politicians this season.
7. UZODINMA IS BRAVE OR JUST ANOTHER COWARD
Imo state despite not being one of the most developed states in Nigeria in terms of infrastructure and human capital development, is ungratefully grateful to have very smart politicians.
Uche Nwosu’s arrest no matter how serious it seemed was instantly overshadowed by the announcement of the sponsors of Insecurity in the state, and with an alleged criminal mentioning his name in the confession video, it was expected that the former gubernatorial candidate would make the list.
With the list stealing the sympathy Chief Nwosu was receiving from Imolites, the next issue became what would happen to those on the list when it will be finally announced.
Unfortunately there was to be no list in the first place another smart move by the state Governor’s camp to get people to join the Stake Holders Meetings, as well as another move that ensured the Okorocha’s camp never took any swift action against the state government who they have tagged as the brain behind Uche Nwosu’s ordeal.
The Governor’s failure to mention names means another wave controversy have been averted in the state. There could have been serious questions of legitimacy as well as an endless list of ligation if the list was released without verifiable evidences.
With pressure on the governor to mention names, he simply avoided that knowing it would further distract his administration – a smart move with elements of bravery in it.
The opposition on the other hand would simply disagree because they have already tagged the governor a coward for failing to make an announcement he continually advertised.
Both sides should understand that this will not be the first time a politician advertised something that never happened. We have seen a lot of it.
8. WHAT’S NEXT FOR UCHE NWOSU
Normally anyone who receives the kind of humiliation dished out to Uche Nwosu would have gone to court, but nothing is normal in this country. At least politicians understand that in their world.
The silence of the Police is not normal. Imo Commissioner for information doing the job of the Police Public Relations Officer is not normal and even the silence from the Police Force Headquarters is not normal because so far, all we can say is that the arrest was carried out by unknown masked officers.
Uche Nwosu will definitely be eyeing the Douglass House in the next election, so it is either he makes the best lemonade from the lemons thrown at him or just act like nothing happened, something politicians also refer to as bravery – masses won’t understand that.
Meanwhile he is on his way to pressing charges against Hon. Declan Emelumba who he has asked to provide evidences that police invitations were avoided before the arrest and from experience such matters either linger in court on die on the pagesof newspapers.
‘Normally’ when there is an illegal arrest, charges are pressed against the police and not the Commisioner for Information – but remember, nothing is normal here.
What Uche Nwosu decides to do next will either increase or decrease his public sympathy and as was stated earlier Imo State has smart politicians who not doing anything can also be part of their game plan.
