Most liverpool fans took the AFCON final personal as they witnessed two of their best players clash against each other.
The finals which needed a penalty shootout to produce a winner had Sadio Mane making the headline against the Liverpool fans favourite Mohammed Salah.
Salah who is tagged Egyptian king at the Merseyside club came close to increasing the trophy tally of his country from seven to eight, but the dream was cut shot by his Liverpool strike partner Sadio Mane who scored the decisive penalty that crowned Senegal Champions of Africa for the first time.
Mane who is the regular penalty taker for his country unlike in Liverpool where the job belongs to his Egyptian counterpart Salah, missed an early penalty but redeemed himself during the shootout.
Sadio Mane since joining Liverpool now has the African Cup of Nations trophy ahead of Salah who would have been elevated to African King if Egypt had won the trophy.
No matter how divided Liverpool fans are at the moment, they understand that back in the English Premier League, Mohammed Salah remains the top score as well as team mate to Sadio Mane.
Both players are expected to line up for Liverpool on Thursday against Leicester City at Anfield, if they don’t take their usual break after the AFCON.
Instead of being divided, Liverpool fans should be grateful that two of their best players made it to the finals of the tournament, a testimony of their true quality.
