Imo State was created on February 3, 1976, by General Murtala Muhammed. By August 27, 1991, Abia State was carved out of the old Imo State. Since its creation, sixteen leaders have presided over the affairs of the State either as Military Administrators or Civilian Governors. Of the sixteen, seven were Civilian Governors while nine were Military Administrators.
In the developmental trajectory of Imo State, two Governors remarkably stood out. They are the visionary Sam Mbakwe and the courageous Hope Uzodimma. Dee Sam, as His Excellency Sam Mbakwe was fondly called, inherited little to nothing from the consecutive military administrations that preceded him. But he was able to buildup Imo State from ground-up, leaving behind him a trail of exceptional performance and an enviable legacy for generations to come.
Sen. Hope Uzodimma in the same vein met Imo in ruins, with little to nothing on the ground in credit to the misadventure of governance that the eight years of Sen. Rochas Anayo Okorocha typifies. Sen. Uzodimma has in the last two years began the tortious journey of rebuilding Imo from scratch. He started the process of changing the narratives by initiating the 3R mantra. (TALK ABOUT THE 3R MANTRA) .
Gov. Hope Uzodimma started by getting rid of corruption in the civil service, pension scheme, payroll system and every other sector of the State.
He also busted the State IGR scam, went into massive road constructions, beefing up the security apparatus of the State, upgraded facilities in the health sector and is currently standardizing the education system to make it more future oriented and relevant to the realities of the 21st century.
Governor Uzodimma has also began strategic efforts to industrialize Imo State. (TALK ABOUT THE AGRIC REVOLUTION). These efforts are geared toward empowering Imo’s youth as well as proving jobs and employment for all Imo people.
As Imo State celebrates 46 years of its creation and the unprecedented renewed developmental strides today, we sincerely appreciate our former leaders both the military and civilian governors. Most of all, we celebrate those who served selflessly and were committed to the development of the State above their personal gains.
Most importantly, we are grateful to God almighty for giving us the person of Sen. Hope Uzodimma as our Governor, who like Joshua in the bible, has led us into the 46th anniversary celebration of the creation of Imo State in the year of the shared prosperity as a Man of justice and the people. This signifies that Imo state is back on the path to greatness and prosperity.
We wish the entire Imolites a Happy 46th State Creation Anniversary Celebration and pray that our dear state shall continue to witness shared prosperity in all ramifications.
