The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Ini Ememobong, has called for a ceasefire on the attack against Governor Udom Emmanuel over his choice of successor.
The governor has been under attack by different groups following his unveiling of the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno, as his preferred candidate to succeed him in 2023.
Ememobong, in a press conference at the NUJ Press Centre, Uyo, on Tuesday said the governor only acted as a medium to channel God’s wish to the people.
He said it is not strange for leaders to have an interest in who succeeds them, saying Gov. Emmanuel’s case should not be different.
His words, “If biologically, traditionally and even in churches people are interested in succession, then it is practically impossible that people should not be interested in succession in politics.
“Let people stop vilifying the Governor as he only served as a medium to whom God divinely revealed his successor to, come 2023.
“Akwa Ibom is our only state and if we hit up the political space and things degenerate, we have nowhere else to go, therefore I want to call on every one of us here to continue to support the Governor and his succession plan for the state.”
The Commissioner also reassured of the governor’s promise to complete every ongoing critical project before the expiration of his tenure in May 2023.
“We have been praying for favourable weather like now, and that is why if you go towards the Eket, Uruan and other major sites across the state, including the new ring road, you will notice that work is ongoing at an advanced level and to that extent, we are excited that very soon, we would have a season of project commissioning,” he added.
