The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has assured that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would take the appropriate decision on who succeeds him in 2023 at the fullness of time.

This is even as the Abia Governor called on political leaders and the people of the state in general to throw away anything that would divide the state in the quest for his successor.

Speaking while receiving in audience a delegation of Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers, Umuahia North Local Government Area at Government House, Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu reminded them that Abia is blessed with human and material resources but requires unity, love, stability and security for the Abia people to flourish.

He distanced himself from those who preach ethnic divide, and also stressed that nobody can ride on ethnicity to become Governor, disclosing that his prayer is that God gives the state humane leader in 2023, who would continue to unite Abia.

The Abia Chief Executive thanked the royal fathers for encouraging him and also reiterated that the PDP and critical stakeholders

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Chairman, Ohuhu Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, lauded Ikpeazu for the uncommon and quality leadership he has continued to demonstrate in Abia state.

According to Ofoegbu,”we are of the opinion that since Old Bende division has produced the Governor for Ukwa/Ngwa block be allowed to produce the Governor in 2023 to ensure equity and balance in the state.”

The Abia monarch said that they would hold agitators responsible for any consequence of negligence of their advice, adding that they would resist any attempt to scuttle the peace and security being enjoyed by Abia people.

Ofoegbu, however, assured the state governor that they were determined to ensure that justice and peace reign supreme in Abia state, and also used the medium to sue for equity and fairness to enhance the socio, economic and political developments, including security.
