Bako Gorgore, a top Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) commander, is expected to become the new leader.

The terrorist will assume the role following the elimination of the late Wali (Head) Sani Shuwaram.

Shuwaram was the fifth officially recognised head of ISWAP. Other predecessors were Mamman Nur, Abba-Gana and Abu-Dawud, all deceased.
