President of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo says church leadership is not family inheritance.
Speaking during the just concluded Church Growth Conference, the African richest pastor urged church founders to define the process of succession in their various ministries, saying they will not be alive forever.
Oyedepo who expressed fear that some churches may crash after the death of the founders due to a wrong succession said being a general overseer is not genetic.
He said, “Define the process of succession because you are going to leave here one day. This thing is not genetic. Let the process of succession be well understood.
“Define the age limit because you need the energy to drive, particularly all these big ministries that are rising. You don’t tell an 80-year-old man to come and drive the trailer.
“Many charismatic ministries may not the next generation. All these handovers to your son or daughter is not ministry. It is not a family inheritance. God can choose your son and it may not be the first or the last.
“That is how to secure the coming generation. If you go by that thing people are doing now, the next person will also put his son there that may not even be born again Christian”.
Meanwhile, there are indications that his son, David Oyedepo Junior who is currently the resident pastor of the church’s headquarters may succeed him.
