President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the attack by gunmen on the residence of Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General George Obiozor.

Armed men raided Mr. Obiozor’s farmhouse in Awo-Omamma, Oru East Local Government Area of ​​Imo State on Saturday.

Two policemen on duty were shot dead, also on Saturday, when gunmen attacked their police premises at the Umuguma police station, Owerri West council area in Imo.

President Buhari, in a statement from his spokesman Garba Shehu on Sunday, described the attack on the Igbo leader’s residence as “deeply distressing”.

Buhari sympathized with President Ohanaeze and urged him to maintain his commitment to peace and unity in Nigeria, despite the growing insecurity in the country.

He said that Mr. Obiozor is a leading voice of moderation in the country’s affairs.

President Buhari, according to the statement, also expressed his condolences to the police authorities for the loss of their men and materials in the attack on their facilities.
