Following the shutdown of schools, banks and other businesses in Imo state, the state government has denied issuing a public holiday in the state on Monday.
Owerri the capital city of the state, which has been relatively peaceful witnessed a shut down as a result of sit at home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Following an attack on Owerri West Police Station, residents of Owerri are now scared that the worst has returned to the city which has been calm for months.
On Monday, March 21, 2022 students and pupils were seen heading back home as schools were shut down, while only the ATM gallery of banks were seen functioning as doors to banking halls were all shut.
In a statement signed by Hon. Declan Emelumba Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state.
The government denied issuing a public holiday or a sit at home order and therefore urged Imolites to go about their businesses without fear.
The state government made it clear that it has not authorized any public holiday or sit at home across the state.
Therefore, advised everyone to go about his or her normal duties.
“Civil servants are particularly advised to ensure that they are in their offices discharging their responsibilities. Those who abstain from duty without authorization will be sanctioned accordingly”
The government of the state has assured everyone of safety as the go about their daily business.
“Government hereby assures all indigene and residents of adequate security as they go about their lawful activities”
