A northern women group, the Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa, has expressed dissatisfaction over the two months extension of the ongoing industrial action by the Academic and Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Its National President, Hajiya Rabi Musa Saulawa, said the extension would affect the educational sector across the 36 states of the federation.

Speaking to newsmen in Kaduna, she said, “We were hoping that at the end of the one month warning strike by ASUU, that, both government and the ASUU would have come to an agreement.”

She lamented that it is really unfortunate that ASUU is going on another strike, saying that it would affect the students and the standard of education across the country.

According to her, any additional months of students staying at home would have serious consequences to the educational sector including the economy, agriculture and other human endeavours.

She noted that Nigerians do not want their children to stay at home, advising that dialogue between the two parties that would solve the strike should be intensified.

She observed that the strike comes amid an increase in price of foodstuff, high cost of petroleum and general insecurity challenges bedeviling peace stability in the country.

She urged the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency go back and resolve their problem with ASUU for the best interest of the students, educational sector and the future of the country.

She also pleaded with ASUU to rethink the issues while calling on the government to listen to their demands in order to save the students from wasting more time at home.
