A leader of the Odua People Congress, OPC, in Ondo State, has been remanded in a Correctional Centre for allegedly disturbing religious worship at the Akure Central Mosque.

The OPC’s leader, Temitope Alo, also known as Ashamo, the OPC’s leader, was said to have led his crew to assault one Akeem Aminu.

The victim was allegedly flogged and had bodily injuries inflicted on him by the suspect and his gang with a cutlass.

Alo was charged with five counts of assault and behaviour likely to cause a breach of public peace.

The defendant and others at large, according to the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Abdulateef Sulaiman, committed the offence around 2:30 p.m. on March 13, 2022, at Central Mosque, Oja-Oba in Akure.

According to Sulaiman, the victim, a mosque traffic controller, was seriously injured and is now in critical condition at the police clinic.

He said that the disruptive behaviour had disrupted the town’s tranquillity and prompted the worshippers to flee for their lives.

Sulaiman claimed that Sections 519,252,351,249(d), 205(2), and 206 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2016, were violated.

The defendant pled not guilty to the allegations and his lawyer, Femi Adetoye, filed for bail on his behalf, promising that his client will not jump bail.

The defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre by Presiding Magistrate N.K Aladejana, who also adjourned the case till March 24, 2020.
