The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has said it is still investigating the cause of the fire incident that occurred at its exhibit yard a fortnight ago.

The fire destroyed some vehicles, including tankers laden with petroleum products in the premises.

The spokesman of the Rivers State Command of the NSCDC, Ayodele Olufemi said the command was investigating a possible act of sabotage.

He said five people have been arrested in connection with the inferno and they were being profiled.

Olufemi assured that the outcome of the investigation would be made public as soon as possible.

According to him, “the Commandant-General, after his recent visit to the facility, made it clear that what took place is a nefarious activity by saboteurs and investigation is still ongoing to unravel the mystery behind the inferno.

“At the heat of the scenerio, we were able to apprehend 5 suspects. Currently, we are still profiling them and after our due investigations, we will tell the public our findings so far.”

The NSCDC spokesman, however, assured that the incident would not affect their cases in court as “we have adequate documents for those cases”.
