Guri Local Government Council in Jigawa State has announced the lifting of the ban on popular weekly markets over the incessant farmers and herdsmen clashes in the area.
The Council Chairman disclosed this in a statement signed by the Local Government Information Officer, Sunusi Doro, and issued to DAILY POST.
DAILY POST reported that there had been continuous public unrest between the farmers and pastoralists which resulted in the death of three persons while many were injured in the area.
Doro said the local government had earlier announced the banning of all weekly markets in its attempt to restore peace in the area.
He said the decision followed after reaching an agreement between the leaders of the pastoralists and farmers in the area
According to him, “already Thursday Kadira weekly market was opened and Guri Friday market is currently going on.”
Chairman of the Kadira market, Kawu Roba commended the local government chairman for reopening the markets that have been closed for about six weeks in an effort to restore peace in the area.
He advised the two parties to avoid taking the law into their hands and report any disagreement to relevant authorities for action.
