Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has lamented the poor attitude to work by the State’s civil servants.
The Governor, who spoke during a meeting with his aides, explained that the political appointees and other State Government officials were not striving hard to salvage the civil service from collapse.
“The commissioner of finance has been directed to stop monthly salary and allowances of absentee civil servants until they are cleared by the commissioners or permanent secretaries of their ministries,” he added.
He told his aides that as Government appointees, they were representatives of the State government, hence they should redouble efforts in assisting the government to achieve its set objectives.
The Governor warned political office holders to always be closer to their people, and wondered why political appointees were shying away from their immediate communities.
He further enjoined them to ensure that their offices and telephone lines were accessible to their people.
