The prayer session declared by the Anambra State Government on Monday (today) witnessed a low turnout.
The state government had at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, declared Monday, April 4, as a prayer session against those hiding under the Indigenous People of Biafra’s name to cause havoc in the state.
However, our correspondent, who visited some Catholic and Anglican churches in major cities like Onitsha, Nnewi, Nkpor, observed that they were scanty worshippers for the exercise that officially kicked off at 11 am across the state.
Markets, motor parks and business premises remained shut. The roads were also very scanty.
No Pentecostal church was seen participating in the exercise.
The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, had on Saturday urged the people of the state to observe a one-day prayer session against the activities of the gunmen terrorising the state and the South-East region.
The governor said the prayer session would hold on Monday, April 4, 2022, in churches and other religious centres across the state.
Soludo explained that the prayer session was against those hiding under the IPOB’s name to cause havoc in the state.
He spoke at a stakeholders’ peace meeting with security chiefs, traditional rulers and religious leaders in Awka.
