The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom State Command, said it has deployed about 1,000 of its personnel to beef up security in the state for the Easter celebration and beyond.

It added that patrol teams have been constituted to mount strategic places of activities within the state such as churches, parks, malls and recreational centres.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSC Ekerete Friday, and issued to our correspondent on Thursday
the personnel were drawn from the Armed squad, Agro Ranger, Counter-Terrorism, Special female squad, Anti-vandal units and the Department of Intelligence Operations to mount the identified hotspots within the state.

According to the statement, “to achieve a hitch-free Easter celebration, the Akwa Ibom State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Commandant Abidemi Majekodunmi has deployed one thousand(1000) personnel to beef up security in the state all through the Easter celebrations and beyond.

“The deployment is a proactive measure to ensure that the peace enjoyed in the state is sustained all through the Easter festivities.

“Patrol teams have been constituted to patrol various identified hotspots within the state. Commandant Majekodunmi has also directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and heads of tactical squads to ensure effective policing of their immediate environment, paying attention to public places, worship centres and institutions.”

While briefing the personnel before deployment, the state commandant advised them to display utmost professionalism in the discharge of their duties, even as he urged members of the public to protect critical infrastructure in the state as well as report any act of vandalism to the nearest office.

Also, the command in another release disclosed that it commenced induction training for newly recruited personnel on the 4th of April 2022 adding that the first phase of the training will be for three months, learning regimental orientation and the mandates of the Corps vis a vis security ethics.

The PRO said after the initial training, the trainees will proceed to career courses at NSCDC training colleges for further instructions for another three months.

He said the commandant, Majekodunmi enjoined the trainees to obey their instructors and all instructions as they are intended to mould them into disciplined and gallant officers.
