The Director-General of the Conference for the Actualization of Human Right, Mr. Omemiroro Maxwell Ogedegbe has said there may be no election in 2023 if nothing was done about insecurity in the country.
The legal practitioner handed down the warning during a chat with DAILY POST correspondent at his office in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
He said the State and Nigeria was in a very terrible state, stressing that, “the nation is at war with itself.”
The human right activist said the rate of kidnapping, armed robbery, assassination, terrorism, banditry and others was alarming.
He stressed that, “injustice and criminals” have taken over Delta State.
He said politicians should start tackling the insecurity if they want elections to hold, otherwise the hoodlums would swallow them up.
According to him, “recently, we heard of the attack on Abuja-Kaduna railway. Two lawyers and a driver were kidnapped along the Benin/Ekpoma expressway. At the end of the day, the kidnappers were conveniently discussing with the families, ransom was paid before the lawyers were released.
“This is a country that gave us the impression that there was something we had to do with biometric, NIN. With all of these arrangements in place, it will be impossible for kidnappers to have a field day. But that’s no longer the case.
“Kidnappers are having a field day in Nigeria and the government only sit back and continue to milk the people, our collective wealth that has trickled into the government purse is what government is busy enjoying.
“The personnel that should be asked to protect Nigerians have been assigned to politicians for the purpose of protecting VIP’s. We have been left in a very serious situation.
“The few security officers that are left are only out to harass and brutalize innocent citizens.”
