Villarreal winger, Samuel Chukwueze, has revealed what manager, Unai Emery, told him before he came on to score against Bayern Munich in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg tie.
Chukwueze came on in the 84 minutes to replace Francis Coquelin and scored a late goal, four minutes later to send Villarreal into the Champions League semi-final.
DAILY POST reports that Villarreal drew 1-1 with Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final second leg tie in Germany on Tuesday night, thanks to Chukwueze’s second-half goal.
The LaLiga side advanced to the Champions League semi-final on a 2-1 aggregate win, having won 1-0 in the first leg last week in Spain.
Asked what his manager Unai Emery told him before he came on, Chukwueze said at his post-match press conference: “He said to me ‘just run. When you don’t have the ball, run, that is what he told me’.
The Nigerian international added, “It is not easy to win one of the favourites in the Champions League. Before you win the Champions League, you need to beat the best and look for the next game.”
