Samuel Chukwueze and his Villarreal teammate made history, following their 2-0 win against Barcelona on Sunday in their final league game of the season.
Chukwueze was brought on with seven minutes left as Villarreal ended the campaign on a positive note.
Goals in each half from Pedraza (41st minute) and Moi Gomez (55th minute) earned Villarreal head coach Unai Emery a first ever win at Nou Camp.
The result saw the Yellow Submarines finish in seventh place on 59 points after 38 games played.
Which means they will feature in next season’s Europa Conference League.
And according to football facts and statistics outfit, OptaJose, Villarreal have become the first Spanish Football team ever to play in the competition.
Villarreal went all the way to the semi-finals of this season’s Champions League where they lost to Liverpool in both legs.
Chukwueze scored seven goals, made three assists in 37 appearances in all competitions for Villarreal this season.
He netted three goals in LaLiga, two in the Champions League and two in the Copa del Rey.
He fell one goal short of his tally in the 2020/21 season for the Spanish outfit.
And the highlight of Chukwueze’s season for Villarreal was scoring the equaliser against Bayern Munich which saw his side qualify for the Champions League semi-finals.
After coming on with less than 10 minutes left, Chukwueze scored the equaliser in the 89th minute to make it 1-1 and give Villarreal a 2-1 aggregate win.
They almost pulled off another huge comeback against Liverpool in the semi-finals before finally succumbing to the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp’s men overcame Villarreal 2-0 in the semi-final first leg at Anfield.
However, they surrendered their first leg advantage as Villarreal leveled up before the break.
But a rejuvenated Liverpool side fourth back to win 3-2.
