The stage is now set for the kick-off of the Ekiti Oba Under-18 Football Competition among various teams in communities in the state.

The competition’s organiser, Qozeem Oladapo, said on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti that the event would begin on Wednesday, featuring 16 teams representing 16 traditional rulers.

“The draws were held on Saturday, where teams were drawn into four groups of four teams each.

“The  preliminary matches are to be played at four different centres, namely Ado-Ekiti, Iyin-Ekiti, Oye-Ekiti and Ijan-Ekiti,” he told newsmen.

Oladapo listed teams in Group A as Onisan FC, Onitaji FC, Elekole FC and Apeju FC, while Group B has Olufaki FC, Arajaka FC, Olukere FC and Oloye FC.

“Teams in Group C are Ewi FC, Onigbemo FC, Onire FC and Onimesi FC, while Group D teams are Owatapa FC, Owa Ooye Okemesi FC, Alara of Aramoko FC and Alawe FC.

“Preliminary matches are to be decided between Wednesday and Monday, while the quarter-final matches are billed to hold between May 25 and May 26,” he said.

The competition organiser said May 28 has been set aside for the semi-finals.

“The third-place match will hold on May 30 and the final match on May 31 at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti,” Oladapo said.

He said traditional rulers and other personalities across political party lines had been invited to witness the matches and also perform the official kick-off ceremony at various venues.(NAN)
