A socio-cultural group, The Peoples Platform has urged the electorate in Kwara State to be wary of deceptive politicians ahead of the 2023 general elections.
It alleged that some politicians were desperately luring voters across the State with emergency empowerment programmes and fake promises.
Spokesman of the group, Joel Afolayan disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin, Capital of the State.
Part of the statement reads, “it is high time the electorate stopped being credulous, but rather stand up to strengthen democracy by asking politicians specific questions on how they intend to run the affairs of government if given the opportunity.
“It is a pity that most of our electorate are still credulous, who are easily swayed by politicians through the meager amount of money and so-called empowerment.
“The time is now that we should all wake up and redefine what democracy is supposed to be in our land, it is also our choice to become victims and start looking for who to blame or we rather rise above it and become victorious.”
He urged the electorate to change the narratives and awake to their responsibility to hold public office holders accountable and engage in political awareness campaigns.
The group spokesman also urged the youth to eschew the temptation of being used as political thugs to wreck political violence and crisis.
