Same-sex couples will be allowed to marry in the Church of Scotland for the first time as Rev Scott Rennie church of Scotland minister states it is the same as same-sex marriage.

After years of campaigning, members of Edinburgh’s General Assembly voted to change church law.

Ministers and deacons will be able to apply to become celebrants of same-sex marriage, but they will not be forced to take part.

Rev Scott Rennie, who in 2009 became the church’s first openly gay clergyman to have his appointment approved, said he would not be able to be a minister without his husband’s “love and support”.
