As the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, begins its primary elections this weekend, the Deputy Minority Leader, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu has urged the party to ensure a level playing ground for all aspirants.

Okechukwu, who is seeking a return to the Green Chambers, specifically enjoined the Enugu State chapter of the party to ensure that the existing peace in the State was maintained.

The lawmaker representing Oji River/Awgu/Aninri Federal Constituency spoke during a meeting with PDP delegates at Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

He called for a conducive atmosphere to enable the people exercise their franchise both at the party primary and the main elections.

“It is our expectation that Enugu State, known for peace, which the Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, momentarily engineered, should be allowed to remain peaceful.

“We in the National Assembly have and will continue to collaborate with the Governor towards the betterment of our people and that we must do. PDP is one in Enugu State and we shall continue to unite as one big umbrella at all times,” he stated.

He regretted that a good number of the population remained unregistered, and urged that urgent steps must be taken to close the yawning gap.

“Our people are giants on social media but not giants in terms of mobilizing the people to do the right thing.

“There is a yawning gap, no doubt about that. A good number of the population remained unregistered, especially those getting to adulthood.

“It is not all about giving advice; we all have to do something practical and from now till June, we are focused on doing something.

“The last time I put effort, we registered over 300 people in a day, that means a lot needed to be done,” he noted.
