An Area Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 17- year old tailor, David Ayuba, to one month in prison for forcefully collecting a phone from a boy.
A panel of two magistrates, Ghazali Adam and Hyacinth Dolnaan, who sentenced Ayuba after he pleaded guilty to the offence, did not give him option of fine.
The panel ordered him to pay a compensation of N27,000 to the complainant.
They said the judgement would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Inspt. Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on April 22, at the ‘A’ Division Police Station by one Olama David of Utan, Jos, by the complainant.
The prosecutor said that the convict, with two other boys now at large, stopped the complainant with an axe and forcefully collected his phone.
Gokwat said that the complainant, who said he lost N7000 in the process, raised an alarm and people came out and caught only the convict,
He said the offence was punishable under the provisions of Section 59 and 272 of the Plateau Penal Code law.(NAN)
