While former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim has withdrawn his candidature from the Imo North Senatorial primaries election of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for today, Saturday, May 28, 2022, NewsTrack Nigeria has uncovered the reason he chose to drop his ambition at the last minute
In a letter addressed to the national chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu and personally signed by him, Ohakim stated that the decision to withdraw from the race was arrived at after due consultations with his family and close associates.
He added that the decision was also taken after a thorough review of events in the last couple of days.
“It is with the highest sense of responsibility that I write to inform you of my withdrawal from the senatorial primaries for Imo North…I wish to assure the leadership of our great party at all levels of my commitment to the success of the party both now and in the future,” read parts of the letter.
However, our impeccable sources revealed that two notable leaders (names withheld) in Okigwe zone didn’t want Ikedi Ohakim to fly APC flag leading to his resolve to step aside.
It was also revealed that Ohakim’s rejection further led to Governor Uzodimma’s resolve not consider him on the contest and rather than eat the humble pie, he stepped down.
As Uzodimma struggles to establish himself to make a come back 2023, he is open to any suggestions, especially from some leaders who are believed to have some deep pockets and command some influence in their people.
