Twenty persons were injured and shops razed by fire when another gas explosion rocked Sheka quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The gas explosion, DAILY POST gathered, went off around 8pm at a gas cylinder refilling shop on Thursday night.

According to a source, the persons in the gas shop and other business owners in adjacent shops were mostly affected in the incident.

DAILY POST recalls that last month a similar explosion left nine dead, with school children injured, in what police later confirmed was an IED.

Saminu Yusif, the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed that 20 persons were affected in the incident.

He also confirmed that the affected victims have been evacuated to the hospital by the firemen deployed to the scene by the Service.

According to him, the incident was caused by a man frying and selling fish near the gas shop.

The spokesperson explained, “We received an emergency call at about 7:04p.m., from Adamu Muhd who reported an outbreak of fire at Sheka Karshen Kwalta, Kumbotso Local Government Area.”

He stated that upon arriving the scene of the incident, they found a building of ground floor of about 40 by 40 feet used as a dwelling place and shops, engulfed by fire.
