Owerri Diocese of the Catholic Church has yesterday inaugurated a new archbishop for the diocese.

His Grace, Most Rev. Lucious Iwejuru Ugorji succeded Bishop A.J Obinna and was duly inaugurated into the cathedral yesterday.

Witnesses to the inauguration were the governor of the state Sen. Hope Uzodinma and the first lady of the state Chioma Uzodinma.

The first lady yesterday took to her Facebook page to share lovely pictures of their presence with the newly inaugurated Archbishop and other prominent ArchBishops from the Cathedral.

She wrote,

Earlier today at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri, Imo State, members of the Catholic congregation gathered to witness the installation of the new Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri His Grace, Most Rev. Lucious Iwejuru Ugorji.

After the glorious inauguration came to a wonderful end, my dear husband Hope Uzodimma and I hosted the Emeritus Arch Bishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Kaigama, Bishop Martin Igwe Uzoukwu, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja – Anslem Umoren, Papal Nuncio Antonio Filipazzi, and Imo State Government House chaplain, Rev. Fr. Gilbert Alaribe, to a wonderful dinner at the Imo State Government House.

His Grace, Most Rev. Lucious Iwejuru Ugorji, the new Archbishop, as an experienced reverend will no doubt lay a foundation for future pastoral and properly fill the position and ministry, Archbishop Emeritus, His Grace Most Rev. A.J. V Obinna left behind. It is my prayer that God continues to direct him, in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Congratulations once again, Your Grace.
