Gunmen on Sunday night abducted Rev James Kantoma, a Catholic priest in charge of St Anthony’s Parish, Angware community in the Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Kantoma is also the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria in the council area.
A source told DAILY POST that the Catholic priest was kidnapped by the gunmen at his house in the community.
According to the source, immediately after the gunmen arrived in the community at night, they moved straight to the house of the Reverend Father.
He added, “Some youths in the area, who were alerted, tried to stop and even gave them a hot chase into the bush but the gunmen started shooting everywhere and eventually took the Reverend Father away.”
Polycarp Lubo, the state chairman of CAN, who also confirmed the incident, expressed sadness about the development.
According to him, since the gunmen took the Reverend Father away, they have not heard anything either from him or the abductors up till this morning.
He expressed the belief, saying that they are praying for him and that no harm would befall him wherever he is.
He lamented the incessant kidnapping of innocent citizens.
