Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State says the victory of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in last weekend’s presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a collective victory of the party and not Atiku’s.

Fintiri who fielded questions from newsmen in Yola Thursday, on the PDP presidential primary election of the main opposition party, said now is the time for the PDP family to work at ensuring the success of the party at the general election due next year.

“As far as the convention is concerned, it is the PDP that won and we are working together to ensure the success of the party at the general election,” Fintiri told newsmen at the Yola International Airport upon arrival at the state capital Thursday after attending the May 28-29 PDP Special convention.

At the PDP presidential special convention/primary, Atiku Abubakar who hails from Fintiri’s Adamawa State won the highest votes of 371, followed by Rivers State Governor Nyesome Wike who polled 237 votes, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki who got 70 votes, among others.

Some of the co-aspirants, particularly Wike, had been perceived to have taken their loss with a bit of bitterness.

Fintiri who was asked to comment on that as well as the clamour for the southern presidency before the PDP primary said the PDP had made its choice and that the party had come past the convention and is moving ahead.

“As you would have noticed, those who participated in the primary have visited each other and we are all together,” he said.
